Professor Sam Hoger has been involved in martial arts for most of his life and has been studying Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 15 years. His martial arts training first began in Karate at the age of six to thirteen and then at fourteen he decided to begin studying jiu-jitsu under Professor Ted Stickel.
Prof. Hoger attended Louisiana State University (LSU) for his undergrad studies, double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy. While attending LSU Sam founded the LSU Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team and trained under an extension of the Carlson Gracie Team lead by Roni Salas and Chris Seifert.
In 2005, Sam Hoger was cast to be a member for the 1st Premiere Season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike Television which was the starting line for the success of the UFC as we know it today.
After a several years of training with Miletich Fighting Systems and competing on the world’s biggest stage for mixed martial arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), Sam opened an affiliate of Miletich Fighting Systems in Houston and recently with Pat Miletich’s blessing has moved on to open his own school, Hoger Mixed Martial Arts in May 2009.
In July 2009, Sam Hoger was awarded his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt by Professor Stickel, certified as a Gracie Barra jiu-jitsu instructor and awarded his first degree by Professor Monteiro who received his black belt by Master Carlos Gracie Jr. the head of Gracie Barra.
Prof. Hoger also holds a black belt in Karate and Tae Kwon Do and is a Miletich Elite Pro Team Member.
Prof. Hoger currently trains fighters in Gracie jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts.
Hoger MMA is well known for producing top fighters in sport BJJ and MMA and Prof. Hoger strives to maintain high standards of instruction preparing his students for any level of competition.
Students under Prof. Hoger have competed in most major BJJ tournaments and have brought home Medals from ADCC, and NAGA. Under his guidance Hoger Mixed Martial Arts students continue to represent the academy in top tournaments often winning gold and silver medals.
Team Hoger MMA fighters hold belts in several divisions from the Texas, Louisiana, and Illinois fighting championships.
Prof. Hoger works closely with local law enforcement teaching defensive tactics. He has trained Military personnel including, Navy seals special warfare development group.
Sam Hoger is the only MMA Instructor in Houston, TX to have fought for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and to continue to train and compete regularly.
In mixed martial arts (MMA) Sam Hoger holds a professional record of 8-4, and is the current Cruiser Weight Champion for the Urban Rumble Championship. He also holds belt titles for Art of War as well as Xtreme Combat Submission Championships.
Prof. Hoger continues to improve his teaching techniques by attending national and international seminars as well as continuing his own personal development of the art of Mixed Martial Arts, which he has dedicated his life. |
